How current is the MOT and tax status?

DVLA records carry a 24-hour freshness window and DVSA MOT history a week. Within those windows we serve the record we already hold rather than re-fetching. Every field and its window is listed on our data and coverage page.

Do I pay again if a sweep returns the same data?

Yes. you are charged per successful lookup, whether the answer is fetched fresh or served from our own recent records. What you are not charged for is a lookup that returns nothing.

Can I check drivers as well as vehicles?

Compliance is a data-freshness problem

Most fleets know which vehicles they run. Fewer can say, this morning, which ones are untaxed or out of MOT, because that information lives at the DVLA and DVSA, not in the asset register, and it changes without telling anyone. A vehicle taxed in March is a compliance problem in April and nobody gets an email about it. Running the registrations you already hold against the DVLA record on a schedule turns that from something you discover after a stop to something you see on a dashboard.

Your asset register is probably wrong in small ways

Records get keyed by hand at acquisition and then never touched. Colours are wrong after a respray, CO₂ figures come from a brochure rather than the V5C, and derivative names drift between whoever entered them. None of it matters until you are reporting on emissions, setting a benefit-in-kind figure or trying to match a vehicle at disposal. Enriching from the registration replaces the typing with the register, and the register is what an auditor will check against.

Value at the point of disposal, not weeks later

Defleet decisions are often made against a value that was accurate when the vehicle was acquired. Where a valuation is pulled at the point of decision, remarketing choices: retain, part-exchange, auction: are made against the current trade position rather than a depreciation curve drawn three years ago. That is a per-lookup cost measured in pence against a decision measured in thousands.
