Vans, HGVs and trailers, from the plate.
The same registration lookup, for the vehicles that actually earn. DVLA records and DVSA test history, including annual tests carried out at an authorised testing facility, for LCVs, HGVs, buses and coaches, not just cars.
- LCV to HGV
- vans, lorries, buses and coaches
- ATF tests
- annual tests included in the history
- From 2p
- per MOT history lookup at Tier 5
What gets in the way
- Consumer vehicle-data tools that only really handle cars
- Annual test dates tracked in a spreadsheet nobody owns
- Mixed fleets needing two suppliers for cars and commercials
- Acquiring used commercials with no view of their test history
What you can do instead
- Look up vans, HGVs, buses and coaches through the same endpoint as cars
- See annual test history alongside car MOT history in one format
- Track test expiry across a mixed fleet from the registrations alone
- Check a used commercial's test and provenance record before buying
Three steps
Same endpoint, any vehicle class
Send a registration. You do not have to tell us whether it is a car, a van or a 44-tonner.
Test history in one shape
Car MOTs and HGV annual tests come back in the same JSON structure, so your code handles a mixed fleet without branching.
Sweep on a schedule
Bulk lookups take 50 registrations at a time, which is how most operators keep a test calendar current.
Commercial operators get treated as an afterthought
Most vehicle-data tools are built around cars, and it shows the moment you send them a 7.5-tonne box van. Test history comes back empty or in a different shape, valuation is meaningless, and the specification fields do not describe anything you care about. Handling commercials properly is mostly about the test record: an HGV's annual test is carried out at an authorised testing facility rather than a high-street garage, and it needs to arrive in the same structure as a car MOT if a mixed fleet is going to be manageable in one system.
Mixed fleets are the normal case
Very few operators run only cars or only lorries. A typical fleet is a mix of company cars, panel vans, a few 3.5-tonne tippers and perhaps something over 7.5 tonnes, and the compliance calendar has to cover all of it. Being able to send any registration to the same endpoint and get back a record in the same shape is the difference between one integration and two, and between one supplier relationship and two.
Buying used commercials
A used van or lorry's test history tells you a great deal about how it was run: how often it failed, what the advisories said, whether the mileage progression makes sense for the work it claims to have done. Combined with a provenance check for outstanding finance and write-off records, it is the same due diligence a dealer would do on a car, applied to an asset worth considerably more.

From 5p / lookupProvenance Check
Write-off, outstanding finance, stolen and scrapped markers in one call.
From £2.34 / lookupFull Vehicle Check
Everything in one call: details, MOT history, valuation and provenance.
From £2.45 / lookupCommon jobs
Test expiry tracking
Keep a compliance calendar current across cars, vans and HGVs from the registrations alone, without maintaining it by hand.
Mixed fleet enrichment
Enrich an asset register that contains everything from a hatchback to an artic through a single endpoint and a single response shape.
Buying a used commercial
Review the full test and advisory history and run a provenance check before committing to a used van or lorry.
Subcontractor vehicles
Check that vehicles operated on your behalf are taxed and in test, the same way you would check your own.
Tyre specification
Pull manufacturer sizes, pressures and load ratings by registration, on commercials, fitment is a compliance matter as much as a purchasing one.
HGV, LCV & commercial questions
- Do you cover HGV annual tests as well as car MOTs?
- Yes. Annual tests carried out at an authorised testing facility come back in the same response shape as a car MOT, so a mixed fleet does not need two code paths.
- Do I need to tell you the vehicle class?
- No. Send the registration and we resolve what it is.
- Are valuations available for commercials?
- Valuation coverage is strongest on cars and light commercials. For heavier vehicles the valuation may not be returned, in which case you are not charged for it: you are only charged on a successful lookup.
- Do you cover trailers?
- Trailer records are more limited than vehicle records. If trailer coverage is central to what you need, get in touch before integrating so we can tell you honestly what you would get.
